Walter Harold White, in his 100th year, passed away in Jamison, PA, on May 22, 2023. The son of the late Nellie Ramage and William White, he was the devoted husband of the late Eileen K. (nee Scully) and father of Kathleen Robinson (Gary), Joan Kelly (Ron), Lawrence (Barbara), Kenneth (Roseanne), and Jeffrey (Bernadette Devenney; the late Lynne). He is survived by nine grandchildren: Monica Morrow, Ian Kelly (Britt Miller), Megan Nye (David), Julia Ramos (Jason), Daniel White (Sarah Burns), James White (Erin Gray), Matthew White (Melissa Richard), Kevin White, and Ryan White, as well as eight great-grandchildren: Olivia Morrow; Liam Morrow; Annaliese, Isabelle, Michael, and Patrick Ramos; Andrew Nye; and Lillian Kelly. He was predeceased by his younger siblings William (Rose), Ruth Williams (J. Barry), and Ralph.

Born and raised in Moosic, PA, he was the oldest of four children. He had great success both academically and musically, finishing in the top of his high-school class of 1941 and then attending an engineering prep program at Penn State during the summer after graduation. Walt played French horn and earned first-chair all-state honors several times. He also played professionally for a number of years starting at the age of 15.

In 1941, Walt moved to Philadelphia and was employed by the Army, while attending the then Drexel Institute of Technology in the evening. Much of his 48-year career was in procurement for the Signal Corps and its successor organization, the Communication-Electronic Command (CECOM). Walt spent most of his career in Army offices in Philadelphia; however, from about 1972 until his retirement in December 1988, he commuted daily to Fort Monmouth, NJ. He received the Army Meritorious Civilian Service and Superior Civilian Service awards, as well as numerous other commendations.

During his employment with the Army, he met his future wife, Eileen, who worked as his secretary. After they were married, they moved to their newly built home in the Torresdale of Northeast Philadelphia, where they resided for their entire 61 years of marriage.

Walt and Eileen were founding members of the Torresdale Swim Club. After retiring, he and Eileen enjoyed traveling, frequently with family members, visiting various vacation spots and spending several weeks each winter in Florida. Walt enjoyed attending live concerts, especially those with big-band music.

There will be a visitation from 7 PM to 9 PM on Tuesday, May 30 at FitzPatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 11 AM at the Forest Hills Memorial Park, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19116.
