Susan H.
Martin
Apr 10, 1952 — Oct 21, 2025
Susan (Hennessy) Martin, a lifetime resident of Abington, PA, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025 at Abington Jefferson Hospital from unexpected acute lung complications, surrounded by her immediate family. She was 73.
She was the beloved wife of Wayne W. Martin for 44 years; loving mother to Laura (Clinton) Mench, Allison (Stephen) Chaves, and Philip (Jill) Martin; devoted sister to Ted (Harriet) Hennessy and Nancy Hennessy; and doting Nana to 8 very lucky grandchildren (Davis, Cora, Samson, Aurelia, Wesley, James, Eliza, and Katherine). She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. Hennessy and Mary Phillips Hennessy.
Susan graduated from Abington High School and earned Bachelor and Master Degrees from Bloomsburg and Arcadia (Beaver) Universities. She taught special education at Valley Elementary School and later taught 3 day 3-year-olds at Abington Presbyterian Nursery School. Once married, Susan and Wayne purchased the home that Susan grew up in and started a beautiful life together. She made running an entire house and family look effortless while her servant's heart never placed emphasis on her own needs. She made sure schedules and bellies were filled with things her family loved and was a master at diligently following through on what she loved, whether it was tending her garden, maintaining her own health, caring for and enjoying her wide network of friends, or studying the Bible. She orchestrated 40 years of family summer and weekend family trips creating memories that will never be forgotten, including Wayne and her trip to Greece the week before her passing.
Her faith in Jesus as her savior steadily grew beginning in her 30s and she made a public statement of that faith by being baptized at Trinity Community Church in 2019. Her salvation is secure.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 11:30am at Trinity Community Church, 1200 Easton Rd, Abington, PA 19001. The family will greet family and friends starting at 10:30am preceding the service. Interment private. Memorial donations may be made to Cradle of Hope of Glenside at cradleofhope.net.
