Shirley Hazzard, a beloved mother, devoted wife, and cherished grandmother, passed away on December 15, 2023 at the age of 80. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness that touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Born on December 13, 1943, in Arima, Trinidad, Shirley embraced life with a spirit of generosity and warmth that defined her character. She immigrated to the US in the late 60s and began working as a nanny. Soon thereafter, she started her corporate career at the telephone company (NY Telephone, Nynex, and Verizon), where she worked for 30 years until she retired.

In 1971, Shirley joined hands in matrimony with her soulmate, Willie I. Hazzard, creating a partnership that stood the test of time. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love, and Shirley was a source of strength and support for her husband throughout their journey together.

As a mother, she exemplified the true meaning of nurturing, always putting the needs of her children above her own. Her unwavering love and dedication to her family were the cornerstones of her existence.

As a grandmother, Shirley radiated joy and warmth. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she took great delight in showering them with affection, imparting wisdom, and creating cherished memories. Her home was a haven of love, where family gatherings were filled with laughter, shared stories, and the comforting embrace of her love.

In Shirley we celebrate a life well-lived—a life that exemplified the virtues of love, compassion, and selflessness. While we mourn her passing, we also cherish the countless memories and lessons she leaves behind. Shirley will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Shirley will be held on December 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM EST at George FitzPatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Rd., Abington, PA 19001. Livestream info will be available upon request.

Until her dying day, Shirley was surrounded and supported by her love ones including the Hazzards, the Williams, the Alcias, Ms. Jackson and many others, too many to name.

Shirley is survived by her husband Willie; children, Jillease (Shawn) of Philadelphia, PA, and Kevin (Tricia) of Indiana; brothers, Irving Boisselle, Carl (deceased), Kenneth Smith, and Zaid Ahmad (deceased); and grandchildren Dalton, Channing, Teagan and Cora.
