Obituary

Patricia A. Dougherty (née Gilmore) passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 86 in Huntingdon Valley, PA. Born on April 3, 1939, in Quakertown, PA, she was the cherished only child of John and Elsie Gilmore.

Pat grew up in Hellertown, PA, where she enjoyed an idyllic childhood and developed a deep love for her parents. After graduating high school, she pursued her passion for caring for others by attending the Lankenau School of Nursing in Lower Merion, where she earned her Registered Nurse degree.

It was shortly after nursing school that she met her late devoted husband, John E. Dougherty, Sr., a trainman with the Reading Railroad. They married, started a family and shortly after began their life together in South Jersey, where Pat worked in public health. After several years, the family relocated to Abington, PA, where Pat began what would become a more than 30-year career at Abington Hospital.Pat worked in many parts of the hospital but her work in neonatal care brought her immense joy and purpose, and she was especially proud of the lives she touched through her compassion and expertise.

Pat was the beloved mother of the late John E. Dougherty, Jr., Joseph Dougherty (Justin), Maria Marcato (Andrea), and Kathleen Dougherty. She was a loving grandmother to Kelly Anderson, Casey Reilly, Megan Kobierowski, Elena Marcato, Julia Marcato, Vittoria Marcato, Aiden Dougherty, Ava Dougherty, Caroline Soli, and Jason Soli, and a proud great-grandmother to four.

Beyond her nursing career, Pat had a vibrant creative spirit. She was known for her love of crocheting, baking, and crafting, always finding joy in making beautiful things for her loved ones. Despite facing significant health challenges in the final years of her life, she met them with strength, dignity, and grace.
