Obituary

Mark Sefko 1957-2026

Mark Sefko, 69, of Meadowbrook, PA, died in the loving company of his sister, caregivers and friends at St. Joseph Manor on July 7, 2026.

Mark was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 14, 1957 to John Sefko and Anne (Hanzel) Sefko and grew up in Monroeville, PA, where he was an excellent student and an outstanding athlete.  As a talented baseball player, Mark progressed from Little League to become a starting pitcher in the American Legion Senior Division, which was a premier amateur baseball program in the 1970's.

Shortly after graduating from Gateway High School, Mark became disabled. He lived with and was lovingly cared for by his parents until their passing. He then relocated to Philadelphia, PA to be in the close company of his sister, Marian (Sefko) Thallner and her husband, Karl A. Thallner, Jr.

For the last decade, Mark flourished in the supportive and loving environment of Redeemer Health's Life Care communities. Mark's passion for baseball continued throughout his life and brought him joy. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan until he moved to Philadelphia, when he quickly became a fiercely loyal Phillies fan. Mark rarely missed a game on television and even watchedrecorded games later. Mark's positive spirit and appreciation for life's simple pleasures were admired by all who met him.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Anne and John Sefko and his sister, Janet (Sefko) Spudich. Mark is survived by his sister, Marian Thallner, brothers-in-law Karl A. Thallner, Jr. and Thomas G. Spudich, his nephews Matthew Spudich, Benjamin Spudich, Anton Thallner, and Konrad Thallner (Grace Thallner) and his niece Katarina (Thallner) Vazquez (Cameron Vazquez).

Friends and family are invited to his Memorial Service on August 10, 2026 at St. Joseph Manor, Meadowbrook, PA. Visitation from 9am to 10am and Mass at 10am.

The family gratefully requests that memorial gifts be directed to Redeemer Health to support St. Joseph Manor Personal Care residents and staff, where Mark enjoyed many supportive friendships, hugs and Phillies games.
