Mark Ratner, 75, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend, and Teacher

Mark Ratner, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected teacher, and trusted colleague, passed away at the age of 75 on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, New York, Mark was the son of Anita and Murray Ratner and the beloved brother of Barbara Morris. He attended Stony Brook University, where his intellectual curiosity began shaping the path that would define his life.

In 1970, Mark became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, a calling that aligned with his sense of purpose and belief in the power of inner peace. Over the years, he taught hundreds of students, always approaching his work with clarity and presence. A guiding principle he lived by came from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: "The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness." Mark lived that truth - bringing pure happiness to those around him.

Mark later became an advertising executive at Hawthorne Direct, where he was respected by his team and clients. Known for his integrity, insight, and steady leadership, he brought a sense of humor and humanity to the professional world.

Mark was married to his wife, Barbara, for 50 years. Their partnership was a model of devotion and mutual respect. Together, they raised three children - Chandra, Alex, and Monika - and Mark took immense pride in each of them. His heart grew even bigger with the births of his grandchildren: Nomi, Esmé, and Murray, who lit up his world.

A lifelong fanatic of the Yankees, Knicks and Giants as well as golfing, long hikes and the ocean in California. Mark found joy in nature, and he shared his enthusiasm generously with family and friends. His friendships were many and deep, marked by humor, loyalty, and a quiet strength that those close to him leaned on.

Mark's life was a reflection of love and wisdom. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he made others feel.
