Obituary

John Muller of Glenside, formerly Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March 4, 2023. Survived by his wife Kathi (nee Houck) and his children Jamie Lee (Matt), Brianna (Josh), and Derek (Tara), his life truly began when he became Big John to Aisling, Declan, Kieva, Rory, Rowen, and Cedric. He was the much-admired big brother of Neil, Karl, Caren, and Maureen (Ken), and cherished uncle, friend, and neighbor to countless more.

Through his work with the Department of Recreation, John will be remembered as a mentor, advocate, and a community ally who invested himself in his work. John went beyond the rules to meet people where they were and provide them with what they needed to be successful. His contributions to the many city neighborhoods he served, kid's lives he changed and colleagues he mentored will never be forgotten.

Even after retirement, John remained involved with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), where he spent countless hours delivering rule books, meeting with umpires, and speaking with league officials and players. This volunteer work brought him joy and kept him socially involved with the playgrounds and recreation centers he loved so much.

John's life will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church (820 North Hills Avenue, Glenside, PA) on Wednesday March 8, 2023. A viewing will be held from 9-10:15 am, followed by Mass at 10:30. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, go be like Big John. Do something kind for someone else without expectation of recognition or reciprocation. Be humble and peaceful. And please, wear your sunscreen.
