Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, George Herman Meyers. He passed away peacefully at the age of 92, at his residence in his beloved Willow Grove, PA. George Meyers lived a full life with his late wife Patricia Ann Meyers, they were married for 62 years. George was born in Philadelphia, PA before his family moved to Doylestown. He attended High School in Doylestown, PA alongside songwriter Oscar Hammerstein, of Rodgers and Hammerstein fame. As a teenager during WWII, George was employed by Cuneo Printing Corporation in north Philadelphia where he cut and bound magazines such as Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan. After work at the print shop, he would race midget cars with his brother Charles at Yellow Jacket (Frankford) Stadium. George was a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served in the US Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman aboard USS Lake Champlain (CV-39), which was deployed and saw action in the Yellow Sea in 1953. Following the war, George met Patricia while working at an automobile service station on Davisville Road in Willow Grove, PA. For a time, they both worked in Philadelphia at Norman Fair Catering serving celebrities and notables including Shirley Temple, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante and US Surgeon General C. Everette Koop. Later, George worked at Standard Press Steel in Jenkintown, PA and was a volunteer fire fighter with the Second Alarmers in Willow Grove, PA. Our dad was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. George and Patricia regularly attended USS Lake Champlain reunions and were members of the USS Lake Champlain Association. George was particularly adept at cracking jokes that made the whole family laugh, especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Charles, his wife Patricia, and his granddaughter Andrea. He is survived by his three sons, G. Stephen, Glenn and Guy; four grandchildren, Justin, Cory, Jordan and Eric; and two great grandchildren Nolan and Minerva.

We invite you to donate to the American Cancer Society in his honor, in place of sending flowers.
