Obituary

Dr. Eugene J Van Scott a resident of Abington, PA passed away on July 21, 2025. Eugene was born on May 27, 1922 in Macedon, New York. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Mary. They were blessed with three children; Christopher, Stephen and David and four grandchildren, Tess, Eve, Olivia and Christopher. Both Dr. and Mrs. Van Scott were lovingly cared for in their later years by a small group of very compassionate and dedicated caregivers who over 23 years became family. Affectionately called the "The Thomas Edison of American Dermatology, Dr. Van Scott was best known for the discovery of alpha hydroxy acids alongside longtime collaborator Ruey Yu. The duo later founded the skin care company NeoStrata, a leader in dermocosmetics.

Dr. Van Scott served as founder and the first chief of the Dermatology branch of the National Cancer Institute and later as Deputy Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Temple University School of Medicine. He developed the first effective treatment for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma earning the highly prestigious Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Award in 1972.

Beyond his accolades and achievements, Dr. Van Scott has had a profound impact on patients and their families, both through research and in medical practice. His kindness, thoroughness, and superb bedside manner earned him the trust and appreciation of our community.
