Obituary

Dario Tobón Martínez, a resident of Abington, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the age of 72, following a 3-year courageous battle with lung cancer. From Cali, Colombia, he was the beloved son of the late Juan de Jesús Tobón and Lastenia Martínez. Dario dedicated over 30 years of his life to the service of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at New Cathedral Cemetery.

Dario leaves behind his cherished wife of 48 years, Gladys Patricia Tobón (nee Guevara), and his loving children: Catalina Tobon (significant other Rafa Barrera and his son, William), Juan Miguel Tobón (Gabriela), and Ana Maria Nelson (Ryan). Dario was a proud grandfather to Nicole and Isabella Castro, Lucas and Juliana Tobón, and Patrick and Leo Nelson. He also leaves behind his surviving siblings, Gonzalo, Ledia, Fabio, Miriam, and Marta, while being preceded in death by Inés and Diego.

Throughout his life, Dario's unwavering focus was on his family, ensuring their constant unity and love. He was a man of great passion, especially when it came to the game of soccer. His coaching prowess earned him admiration as he mentored and guided girls of all ages, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Monday, July 24th, from 6 to 8 pm at FitzPatrick Funeral Home, located at 1500 Old York Rd. in Abington. A funeral Mass in his honor will be held on Tuesday, July 25th, at 10:30 am at St. Hilary of Poitiers Church, located at 820 Susquehanna Rd. in Rydal. The interment will be held privately.
