Obituary

Anthony Francis Pileggi, of Abington, formerly of Willow Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday April 23, 2026. Anthony "Tony" was born in Willow Grove to the late Joseph and Angelina (nee Grato) Pileggi in 1930. Tony served as a Corporal in the Army from 1952 until 1954. After the service he worked with his father at Pileggi Shoe Repair on Old York Road in Abington. He then went to work for the United States Postal Service in Willow Grove as a letter carrier for 37 years, retiring in 1997. He was well liked by his customers and known as "Big Guy" by his coworkers. Tony and his family moved from Willow Grove to Abington in 1968 where he enjoyed tending to his yard and garden and, became the neighborhood "Mr. Fixit." Tony was known for his generosity of time and energy, whether it be snow blowing others' sidewalks or using his carpentry skills to craft toys or projects for others. Tony was always interested in history and was a longtime member of the Upper Moreland Historical Association. His other interests included military aircraft, collecting historical objects and bowling in addition to being a Philly sports fan.

Tony was the beloved husband of Mary Eleanor "Ellie" (nee Crowley) Pileggi for 65 years and the loving father of William Anthony "Bill" of Abington, Joan Marie of Castle Rock, CO and Robert Michael of Merion Station, PA and the grandfather of Shadow Hollenbach of Castle Rock, CO.
