Agnes Kaniewski Lichtner, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 83, in Catawissa PA on Feb 20th with her husband Joseph Lichtner at her bedside. Her journey through life began on January 24, 1943. Born to Anne and Michael Kaniewski in Philadelphia they then moved to Abington where She became a parishioner in 1955 and graduated from OLHC School. She then attended Melrose Academy where her dream of becoming a nun suddenly changed with one look from a handsome man on the dancefloor who became the love of her life. They married in 1963 and immediately started their family. Agnes was a member of the Sodality and the Altar Society, served on the first Parish Council, was an officer of the Home and School Association, & taught pre-school CCD. But her passion was being a song leader for Masses and being the musical director for parish musicals with the Theatre Guild. She brought great joy to the residents of Willow Lake and Rydal homes for the elderly as an entertainer / pianist as well at the Meadowbrook school of Dance. She also worked as an office coordinator for an oral surgeon and dentist until she retired in 2007 and bought their dream home in Catawissa. Where they enjoyed many family functions and spent time travelling to their favorite destinations.
She was known for her loving personality and never at a loss for words. Her love for her children was endless and unconditional. She leaves behind her husband Joseph of 62 years, her 7 children - Joseph, (Robin) Gregory, (Heidi) Cynthia, (Brett), August, (Anita) Agnes,(Julio), John (Danielle). 9 grandchildren Ryan (Jessica), Samantha (Robert) Melissa (Colin) Jordan, Jake, Grace, August, Lorenzo and 1 great grandson Charles.
Relatives and Friends are invited to call Friday Evening February 27, 2026 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at FitzPatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Rd. Abington and Saturday February 28, 2026 from 9:00 am until 9:45 am at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 1500 Marian Rd. Abington where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment is private.
