Obituary for Nancy L. Lord

Nancy L. Lord, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and grand-aunt,
died November 15, 2021 peacefully after suffering through a progressive neurological disease. Born in Abington on 7-29-62 to the late John Baldwin and Marian Johannes Lord. She is the loving sister of: John Brian Lord (Joan), Kevin Patrick Lord (Laura), Mary Lord Franco (Barry), Peggy Lord Hensler (Bob), Timothy James Lord. Cherished Aunt of: Megan Lord, Sean Lord, Ryan Lord; Rebecca Bendel, Juliana Kuhn; Brian Franco, Christopher Franco, Carolyn Franco; Kevin Hensler, Marian Hensler, Jack Hensler. Also survived by Grandnieces and nephews: Braxton Lord, James Lord; Benjamin Lord, Persephone Bendel, Genevieve Bendel; Evelyn Franco, Annalise Franco; Leonardo DiPiazza, Gianna DiPiazza, Matilda Laiks, Benjamin Laiks

Nancy graduated Villanova University, 1984, B.S., Nursing; and Saint Joseph’s University, MBA, 1993.
She was a very intelligent woman and a highly accomplished professional. She was particularly proud of her Villanova degree and the Wildcats 1985 National Basketball Championship.

Nancy began her career as a visiting pediatric nurse at Einstein. She then became a staff RN in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cooper Hospital while completing her MBA and working for Bayada Nurses caring for medically fragile children in their homes. She moved to management in 1990 and successfully ran the PIC Unit until 1997. She worked in various consulting positions and lectured throughout the country and worked as a Pediatric ED nurse at Temple University Hospital. She then accepted a director position at Vorhees Pediatric Facility in 1999; she ran the facility for over a decade. In 2011 she moved to Nashville, TN to develop a new PICU at HCA Hospital but missed her home and family and returned to the Philadelphia area to serve as Director of Outpatient Services at Shriner’s Hospital for Children, until her illness prevented her from working any more in late 2017. Throughout her career, Nancy served as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor.

Nancy was extremely generous with family and friends. She always loved children which led to her vocation in pediatric nursing. Nancy was a caring and inclusive supervisor whom employees and co-workers loved. She cared about everyone and was always helping them improve. She was an incredibly decent, caring, and principled person. She was, in the best tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, a person truly for others. When Nancy’s mom suffered through the late stages of pancreatic cancer in late 1988, Nancy lovingly cared for her at home and helped Mom find peace.

While Nancy never married, her “children” were her pet Shelties which she called her “Evil Twins.” She pampered and smothered her dogs with love. More than anything, Nancy treasured her closest relationships: her dearest friends for 35 years, Sean Ogden and Pete Flicker, her nieces and nephews and the light of her life in the past ten years, her grandnieces, and grandnephews. To them she was “Ceece.” Until her last days the countless “Lord family" stories and traditions gave her joy and made her smile.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass Thursday December 2, 2021, 10:00 am at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 1500 Marian Rd. Abington where the family will receive guests from 9:00 am until Mass time.
