Obituary for Margaret C. Everett (Crawford)

Margaret Everett went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2021 at the age of 102. Born on January 16, 1919 in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, she was the third of four children. Her parents, Robert and Marian Crawford loved the Lord and raised their family in the Covenanter church, a Psalm-singing denomination that provided the first 40 years of her spiritual nourishment. Margaret graduated from The Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1936, and from Temple University in 1940 with a degree in elementary education. A long-time resident of the Olney section of Philadelphia, Margaret taught kindergarten in the Philadelphia Public Schools from 1955-1981.
Margaret met her husband, Herman Hayward Everett of Olathe, Kansas during WWII and they married in 1945. Herman died suddenly in 1954 while Margaret was 4 months pregnant with their second child. Through this very difficult time Margaret was sustained by her faith and a verse from Isaiah became her anchor, …in quietness and confidence shall be your strength… Isaiah 30:15
Margaret joined The First Presbyterian Church of Olney in 1959. The church became the center of the family’s spiritual and social life. Margaret taught children in the Sunday School and Summer Vacation Bible School for many years and was active in the Women’s Association. Margaret continued to attend church services every Sunday until she was no longer physically able to travel.
Margaret called her move to Rydal Park in 1989 a gift she gave herself. She enjoyed the many opportunities for socialization and served as a volunteer in many areas including the chorus, bell choir and gift shop. Margaret enjoyed playing games, Scrabble being her favorite. She loved to work on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, watched game shows on TV and listened to music. Her anchor verse for this period of her life was Philippians 4:11...I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Jarman (William), son Robert Everett, grandson Will Jarman (Robyn) and 2 great-granddaughters, Olivia and Madison.
A few weeks before she died, Margaret said, “I hope my behavior was an example of faith at work.” It was.
