John MacDougall passed away peacefully at Rydal Park on Jan. 25, 2022 after a period of declining health. “Jack”, as he was known, was born at the family home on September 27, 1932 in Wyoming, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Kirkland and Louisa MacDougall and the youngest brother of Blair and Marion. He attended Wyoming High School where he excelled in track and football. After graduating in 1950, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Navy corpsman until an honorable discharge in 1954. Jack then attended art school in New York City. In 1957, he married Nancy Roberts and remained married (61 years) to her until her death in 2019. He spent his working career in the insurance field working for a number of companies and eventually he excelled to the executive level, and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Merchant’s Mutual Insurance Company. He also founded a successful collector car insurance company, American Collectors Insurance, in 1979 which grew to become a nationally successful first of its kind venture. Though he remained in the insurance field until his retirement, Jack retained his passion for painting and became a prolific portrait painter. He has 3 adult sons Eric (Sharon), Gregg (Lynn) and Drew (Marta), 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was known throughout his life for his sense of humor, his love of learning new skills, and his generosity of spirit. Jack was active in his church, Calvary Presbyterian, in a variety of roles. He was truly a man of many interests. He had a lifelong love of flying and eventually owned his own plane which he piloted. He also was an avid reader, woodworker, breadmaker, motorcycle rider, boater, and pasta maker. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their other home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A funeral service for family and friends will be held Saturday February 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church 405 N. Easton Rd. Willow Grove, PA. Family will receive visitors from 10:00 am until service time in the church. For those who wish, donations can be made in Jack’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of America.
