Obituary for Margaret H. Bernocco (Mellon)
Margaret Bernocco passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2021 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. A resident of Cheltenham, Pennsylvania for the last 15 years, she is the beloved wife of 48 years to Richard John Bernocco, Sr., loving mother of Maggie Bernocco, Helen (Jason) Zeitz, and Richard John (Robert Huff) Bernocco, Jr., and grandmother to Erick Donahue and Laci Robbins.
Margaret was born on November 30th, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Martha and John Mellon. In 1951, she met her husband Richard and they would wed on October 20th, 1973. A beloved and respected child care provider for many years, she opened the Altogether Friends Child Care Center in Philadelphia in 1995, where she provided care, assistance, and joy to countless children for nearly twenty years until her retirement in 2014. She would spend her leisure time listening to Frank Sinatra, binge-watching NCIS, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by Thomas Mellon, Mary Devine, Bernadette Boyle, Peter Mellon, and Julia Afonsa, and predeceased by John W. Mellon, Rose Kollock, Martha Travis, and Frances Coyle.
A viewing for Margaret will take place on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021 at 10:00am at the George G. FitzPatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. A private family service will follow at 11:00am. A livestream will also be provided for those unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may also be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org.
