Our History

FitzPatrick funeral home was founded by Matthew J. FitzPatrick in 1904 at his private residence on the corner of Park Ave. and Butler St. in Philadelphia at a time when funerals were still conducted from the private homes of the deceased. The business was soon moved onto North Broad Street at Rising Sun Ave. where it remained in operation until 1971. M.J. FitzPatrick was joined by his son, S. Raymond FitzPatrick in the business in 1917. Over the next half century FitzPatrick Funeral Home became one of the largest and most respected firms in the funeral industry in Philadelphia. S. Raymond was later joined in the business by his two sons, Raymond S. and George G. FitzPatrick.

In 1954 S. Raymond open a second location on Old York Rd. in Abington and named his son George G. FitzPatrick Director of that facility. George operated that funeral home for 53 years until his passing in 2007.

In 1986, George was joined by his son, Stephen R. FitzPatrick, II, who became the fourth generation in the FitzPatrick Family to serve the community through their family run business. The Abington Facility has undergone two major renovations in 1964 and 2010 to improve the ability of FitzPatrick funeral home to serve the needs of the bereaved they serve.

For over one hundred and five years the FitzPatrick family has served the needs of families during their time of loss of a loved one. Although the FitzPatrick's have a rich history of service, they continue to strive to meet today's changing needs of the bereaved by constantly improving every area of their service. Stephen FitzPatrick carries on the legacy of excellence in funeral service that the three generation of FitzPatrick's have before him.
